    Elder mistreatment research must be conducted in a variety of settings in order to maximize understanding and make it possible to take proper measures for prevention and management. These settings include geographically defined communities and households, social service agencies, the law enforcement and judicial systems, and the health care system. In an attempt to achieve these outcomes, each year AASA releases a RFP to support new or ongoing elder abuse prevention and detection efforts; raise awareness through education through presentations, materials, counseling and mediation; identify and replicate best practices; and provide trainings in the areas of elder abuse laws, reporting.

    To date, most existing CNA training on elder mistreatment focuses on detection and mandatory reporting of abuse. Little training focuses specifically on the prevention of elder mistreatment.
